Three establishments you will not find in tourist brochures — a guide to fish bars in Mielno by someone who lives here.

The best fish in Mielno is not always by the promenade. As a resident, I point to three fish bars with genuinely good reviews, explain how much you should pay for cod and salmon in 2026 and reveal why “fish straight from the boat” is most often a marketing trick.

Where to eat the best fish in Mielno? A guide to fish bars from a resident

Short answer: The best fish bars in Mielno are three places — U Chadacza in Mielenko (smokehouse and fish bar, rating 4.7/5 from over 4 thousand reviews), Marina Unieście in the fishing harbour (4.5/5, over 3 thousand reviews, harbour atmosphere) and Itaka Mielno in the very centre at ul. Kościuszki 12 (4.5/5, over 2.5 thousand reviews). The approximate price for good fish is 14–17 PLN per 100 g.

Are you looking for the best fish in Mielno and don’t want to fall into a tourist trap? As a Mielno resident, I’ll guide you through three fish bars where it really is worth eating, show you how much you should pay for cod, salmon and pike-perch in 2026, and explain why the slogan “fish straight from the boat” by the Baltic is mostly a marketing trick. Read on — you’ll save money and time, and your first fish by the sea won’t be the last.

How to recognise a good fish bar by the Baltic?

Before I name specific establishments, I’ll give you a few simple tips that help after years of living in Mielno. These are the same pieces of advice the locals give when someone from the family comes to visit and asks where to go for fish.

  • A short menu. A fish bar that has thirty species of fish on the menu certainly doesn’t have all of them fresh. Good places keep 5–8 items and change them according to the catches.
  • Frying and smoking on site. An open kitchen or a visible smokehouse is a good sign — it most often means that the fish is prepared to order, not reheated.
  • Google reviews above 4.3 with a minimum of 1000 reviews. Four thousand reviews and an average of 4.7 (like U Chadacza) is a result worth taking seriously.
  • Price proportional to grammage, not to the view. Fish by the beach should not cost twice as much as fish by the car park. I write about prices below.

Fish bars in Mielno — my TOP 3

Mielno is a seaside town in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where in summer restaurants and fish bars reign. Many of them pretend to be local taverns with “fish straight from the boat”, but there are also those that don’t pretend anything and serve excellent fish. I am a resident of Mielno and in my opinion these three fish bars are the best in the area.

U Chadacza — the undisputed number one in the area

This place doesn’t need advertising, but for the record: an average rating of 4.7/5 with over 4 thousand reviews speaks for itself. U Chadacza is a classic smokehouse and fish bar, where the smell of wood and smoked fish can be felt from the car park.

At weekends, plan for 15 minutes in the queue — in peak season it can be longer. In May the establishment is open daily from 11:00 to 18:00. You will find it in Mielenko, at ul. Lipowa 33, right by the main road. A large car park next door solves the problem every tourist in Mielno struggles with. If you don’t mind a 10-minute drive from the centre, then without hesitation choose this place.

Itaka Mielno — the best fish bar in the centre

The detail that sets this place apart is its location: the very centre of Mielno, ul. Kościuszki 12. Itaka is a fish bar and restaurant with fish and seafood, open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. Average rating 4.5/5 from over 2.5 thousand reviews.

It is the only establishment on Kościuszki specialising in fish dishes — and it does so really well. If you have stopped near the promenade and don’t fancy driving, Itaka is the most sensible choice. Price-wise it usually comes out as the most favourable of the three.

As a resident of Mielno I can recommend these three establishments with a clear conscience. In each of them you will not be disappointed, and to a Chadacz like this you will keep coming back, because you will feel what differentiates fish from the sea from that from the discounter.

Marina Unieście — fish bar in the fishing harbour

Restaurant Marina is a fish bar with a view of the beach full of boats — and these boats are not there by accident. The establishment is located in the Fishing Harbour in Unieście, at ul. Rybacka 10. Here you will not eat smoked fish — Marina fully focuses on the fish bar in an atmospheric place that you will not find in Mielno.

Google rating: 4.5/5 from over 3 thousand reviews — a great result, considering they handle tourist intensity. Off-season open from 11:00 to 19:00, at weekends expect a queue. The fish will certainly not disappoint you, and the atmosphere of the port and the view of the Baltic add charm to this fish bar.

Fishing seasons in the Baltic — do not let yourself be fooled

If you come to the sea with the intention of eating fish straight from the boat, you must know when it is at all possible. It is knowledge you won’t find on the menu of any fish bar, and which fundamentally changes the way you look at the slogan “fresh catch”.

Baltic cod — fishing is completely prohibited throughout the year, both for commercial boats and for anglers. The only legal option is so-called bycatch, i.e. accidental catching of several individuals in the net during fishing for other species. Only this fish can the boat keep. Every cod you eat in Mielno comes either from bycatch or from import — most often from Norway or Iceland.

Baltic salmon and sea trout — the fishing ban applies from 15 September to 15 November. If you have come to the sea in this period, do not count on fresh Baltic salmon. This does not mean that salmon won’t be on the menu — it will, but farmed, most often Norwegian.

Herring and sprat — no closed season, but quota limits apply. In 2026 Poland received a herring quota increased by about 45% compared to the previous year, which translates into greater availability of fresh herring in fish bars for the majority of the season.

Whether you eat fresh fish depends on many things, but fishing standards are key. The mere fact that the fish is not “straight from the boat” does not mean it is worse — in fish gastronomy, most of the raw material is frozen immediately after the catch, which in practice preserves quality excellently. The source and turnover matter. Good fish bars buy from reliable suppliers.

How much does fish cost in Mielno? Indicative prices in the 2026 season

In small seaside towns like Mielno there is a phenomenon that everyone quietly calls price-fixing — most establishments stick to very similar rates. There are, however, those that dictate their own, significantly higher prices, counting on the tourist who will not check. These fish species should not cost more than:

  • Cod — 15 PLN / 100 g
  • Salmon — 17 PLN / 100 g
  • Pike-perch — 14 PLN / 100 g

How does it look in our TOP 3 (Itaka, U Chadacza, Marina)?

  • Cod stays around 15 PLN/100 g — with the exception of Marina Unieście, which charges 18 PLN/100 g.
  • Salmon — on average 17 PLN, Marina again steps out of the pattern and charges 20 PLN/100 g.
  • Pike-perch — range from 14 to 18 PLN/100 g depending on the establishment and season.

Price-wise Itaka comes out best. Marina charges extra for the location — right by the beach, surrounded by boats, the atmosphere does its job and the owner knows it. U Chadacza is in between, even though qualitatively it is regarded as the best fish bar and smokehouse in the area. Remember: to the price of the fish you add chips/potatoes (8–12 PLN) and a salad (6–9 PLN), so the real bill for a decent fish lunch is 45–70 PLN per person.

Mielno or Unieście — where to go (not only to eat)

The question “Mielno or Unieście” is for me as a resident trivially simple — I choose Unieście. I explain why.

Unieście is the definitely quieter part of the Mielno municipality. You will not find liquor stores on every corner here, stalls with Chinese souvenirs, noisy groups or dangerous situations after dark. Unieście wins with peace and nature — it is an area for families with children and people who come to the sea to really rest. The only exception to this rule is Harem Mielno — a club known for loud parties — but it lies on the very border with Mielno, so it does not disturb the rest of Unieście.

Strengths of Unieście:

  • quiet, intimate districts,
  • wide sandy beaches less crowded than in the centre of Mielno,
  • an active fishing harbour with boats,
  • unique HT Houseboats / houseboats in the marina — an attraction in itself, worth seeing even without an overnight stay,
  • self-sufficiency — restaurants, shops, hotels, fish bars. There is nothing you have to go to Mielno for.

Strengths of Mielno:

  • a significantly wider choice of gastronomy and shops,
  • a seaside promenade,
  • a railway line (rail train) to Koszalin,
  • more attractions for children nearby (amusement parks, mini-golf, museum of illusions),
  • a cycle path through the forest Mielno – Mielenko – Chłopy – Gąski — ideal for a family trip along the coast.

In practice: if you are coming for sacred peace and good food — Unieście. If you want to have everything at hand and like the crowd — Mielno. And for fish it is still worth taking a tour of both places.

FAQ

Questions 1.

Are the fish bars in Mielno open off-season?

At Itaka, U Chadacza and Marina — yes. Some of the smaller stalls still prefer cash, especially the seasonal ones by the beach.

What fish should I choose if I am at the Baltic for the first time?

For someone used to mild flavours — cod, a classic, neutral, with white flesh. For someone who likes more pronounced fish — whole fried flounder or pike-perch.
