23rd to 24th June 2026
Mielno Midsummer Night is one of the most magical and recurring events in the calendar of the Mielno municipality, celebrating the summer solstice and the shortest night of the year, traditionally falling around 23rd to 24th June. This event is a unique combination of ancient Slavic rites of Kupala Night (Sobótka) with the modern form of a seaside festival, which attracts both residents and crowds of tourists.
The event is a beautiful reference to pagan traditions associated with the cult of water and fire, as well as love and fertility. The central point of Mielno Midsummer Night is the ritual of releasing wreaths onto the water — Lake Jamno or the Baltic Sea become the backdrop for colourful, floral wreaths symbolising the hope for an early marriage. Bachelors traditionally try to fish out the wreaths, which is a reference to old divinations and matrimonial customs.
What awaits the participants?
- Wreath-weaving workshops: Participants, especially young women, can create their own traditional wreaths from wild flowers and herbs under the guidance of florists.
- Search for the Fern Flower: Although symbolic, this is an exciting element of the outdoor game referring to the oldest Slavic beliefs.
- Artistic performances: The evening is enhanced by concerts of folk and shanty bands or popular performers, maintaining the seaside and folk atmosphere.
- Fire Theatre (Fireshow): The culmination of the night is usually a spectacular performance using fire, which completes the atmosphere of this shortest, magic-filled night.
- Mielno Midsummer Night is an excellent opportunity to travel back in time, get to know the richness of Slavic culture and together welcome summer in the seaside setting in a joyful way.
