The most beautiful beaches in Mielno and the area
which section to choose?
The most beautiful beaches in the Mielno commune stretch over dozens of kilometres of the Baltic Sea — from Łazy in the east, through Mielno, Unieście, to Chłopy and Gąski in the west. This article concerns exclusively the beaches within the Mielno commune — specific sections, their character and who each of them will suit best. If you are planning a holiday by the Baltic Sea and wondering which stretch of beach to choose, you have the answer below. More guides and local tips can be found in the other articles on the blog atrakcje-mielno.pl.
Why do the beaches of the Mielno commune stand out from the Polish coast?
Mielno beaches have several features that distinguish them from other well-known towns — such as Ustka or Kołobrzeg. The first of these is the regular widening of the coastline. Investments in the protection and expansion of beaches mean that the width of the sand in many places exceeds several dozen metres — a rarity on the Polish coast.
The beaches of the Mielno commune are regularly cleaned and kept in order. In the summer season, cleanliness is monitored, and bins distributed along the beach mean that the level of cleanliness is really high — and it is for this that the Mielno sand is considered the cleanest in this part of the Baltic Sea.
The landscape of natural dunes along most sections gives these beaches a wild, Baltic beauty. On the vast majority of the coastline in the commune there are no breakwaters — which means an open horizon, the sound of waves and a view straight out to the sea. This natural, uninterrupted view is one of the main assets of the Mielno beaches compared to more urbanised resorts.
Within the commune there are two marinas — in Chłopy and in Unieście. On one side of the horizon you can see the silhouette of the lighthouse in Gąski, on the other — the mighty breakwater at the canal in Unieście. These two points form the natural framework of the landscape and give the beaches of the Mielno commune a unique, recognisable character.
Ranking of the beaches of the Mielno commune — five sections, five characters
The beaches of Mielno are not one uniform strip of sand — each section has a different atmosphere, different attractions and different regulars. Below you will find descriptions of the five most important beaches of the commune that are worth considering when planning a stay in Mielno. From the most natural to the most lively — each has its reason to be visited.
Unieście–Canal Beach — number one in the commune
The beach between the marina and the canal is a picturesque, tropical stretch of the Mielno coastline. On one side closed off by the fishing marina, on the other by the mighty breakwater at the canal mouth — the beach between these two points is sandy, natural and really clean. The lack of buildings and the good location mean that the sunsets observed from this place make you forget about all the bad things and start dreaming.
This is an ideal place for families who value peace and a natural atmosphere with a landscape. The bathing area in this place is guarded in season, and the view of the canal, marina and open sea makes it difficult to feel here like in a tourist seaside town. It is more beach time — without noise and without crowds at the peak of the season.
Gąski Beach — lighthouse instead of marina
Gąski is a section that impresses primarily with its landscape. There is no marina here like in Unieście, but there is something equally characteristic — the lighthouse, visible from the beach and available for sightseeing. The landscape effect is similar to Unieście: sand, dunes, open sea with that one detail of the lighthouse.
The beach in Gąski is quieter than the main beach in Mielno and attracts beachgoers looking for quiet with a light note of history. The lighthouse is impossible to miss — it is a point filling the landscape and an excellent background for photos. A few kilometres from Mielno, best reached by bike, there may not be a place for a car.
Chłopy Beach — marina, pier and fishing atmosphere
Chłopy is a town with character — and the beach is an example of this. A section a little more altered by human activity than Unieście or Gąski, but still very well-kept. On site there is a fishing marina and a pier into the sea — from its end the view is really attractive, and the gulls circling around the cutters add a fishing atmosphere.
Near the beach there are fish-fry shops — an excellent place for lunch after morning beach time. For history lovers the surrounding areas have bunkers from the period of World War II, accessible during the cycle route from Mielno to Chłopy.
Mielno Centre Beach — life, music and many attractions
The beach in Mielno is the most crowded and at the same time the most lively beach in the commune. In season, music plays at the promenade — sometimes live — and along the beach a series of gastronomy points stretches: ice cream, fish-fry shop, bars, cafés with a view of the sea. The beach is wide, sandy and guarded, with water equipment rentals, volleyball courts and a rich entertainment offer.
It is the atmosphere of a seaside resort — numerous gastronomy points, plenty of attractions for children and a busy promenade right by the beach. For water sports lovers, jet skis and other activities are available. An excellent place for long holiday days, although decidedly louder and more crowded than other parts of the beaches. The accommodation base in Mielno is the largest — Lake Jamno visible from some accommodation facilities provides an additional asset.
Łazy Beach — wild beach for those who escape the crowds
Łazy is the wildest beach in the commune — and we consciously use this word. About 11 kilometres from Mielno, accessible by car or bike, with minimal gastronomy infrastructure. Along the way you pass former German bunkers from World War II, which are themselves a place worth stopping for history lovers.
On the beach in Łazy you will not find crowds, music or bars along the beach. You will, however, find places to relax, the sound of the Baltic Sea and real peace. It is a beach for those for whom crowded Mielno does not suit — and who are ready to drive a few kilometres further to have the sand almost exclusively to themselves.
Which beach for whom? Quick summary
Unieście and the canal area — for families with small children
Shallow, calm water entry, close to the centre and infrastructure on site. A good choice when the safety of children and comfort are the priority.
Gąski — for those who are looking for quiet not far from Mielno
Less crowded than in the centre, without large commercial attractions. Works well for a longer stay, when you care about a calm sunbathing without distraction.
Chłopy — for nature lovers and active leisure
Beach with a pier and fishing marina, near bunkers and fish-fry shops. A better option for couples and people looking for contact with the landscape than with tourist infrastructure.
Mielno centre — for those who want to have everything at hand
The largest selection of restaurants, bars, equipment rentals and seasonal attractions. The busiest beach in the area — ideal for one active day, less comfortable for a multi-day stay.
Łazy — for singles, couples and fans of further trips
11 km from Mielno, accessible by car or bike via the route by the bunkers. Little crowd, wild shoreline. Not for those who care about the facilities — here it is about space and peace.
