Lake Jamno is an extensive body of water separated from the Baltic Sea by the narrow spit on which Mielno lies. With an area of over 2200 hectares, it ranks 9th among the largest lakes in Poland and offers a quieter, more natural alternative to the sea beach.

A former sea bay at the gates of the resort

Lake Jamno was formed from a sea bay gradually cut off from the Baltic Sea by a growing belt of spit. To this day, it connects to the sea via the Jamno Channel — a natural canal located about 2 km beyond Unieście. The waters of the lake are slightly brackish in character, and its average depth is only 1.4 m, which makes it warmer and safer than the open sea. This is precisely why attractions on Lake Jamno enjoy such great interest among families with children and people who prefer calm recreation to sea waves.

The maximum length of the lake is over 10 km and the width reaches 3.4 km. These dimensions mean that from the deck of a boat or kayak you can truly feel the space — and at the same time, the shallow, sheltered waters pose no danger even for beginners.

Water sports and recreation on the lake

Around Lake Jamno there are several marinas offering a full range of water activities. Lovers of dynamic experiences can rent jet skis and motorboats — no qualifications are required to drive units up to 10 hp, and a briefing is included in the price.

A calmer way to spend time on the water is provided by kayaks, SUP boards and pedal boats. Lake Jamno is the ideal place for first steps with a paddle — the lack of sea waves and the shallow depth allow you to feel confident from the first minutes. Pedal boats are available in versions for 2–4 people, and SUP boards work both as a balance workout and as a way to relax while drifting on the water’s surface.

For the youngest, a separate entertainment zone has been prepared — an inflatable obstacle course on the water with slides and trampolines operating as part of the Water Amusement Park.

Guided cruises

One of the most popular attractions of Lake Jamno remains the Mila boat cruises. During a 45-minute cruise, the guide talks about the history of the region, the fishing traditions of the spit and the nature of the lake. It is an excellent proposal for those who want to get to know the body of water without physical effort. Details of the cruise offer can be found on a separate subpage dedicated to boat cruises.

Nature and fishing

Lake Jamno is not only about water sports. The shores of the body of water are overgrown with extensive reedbeds, which are home to numerous species of waterfowl. Bird watching — especially in the early morning or evening — is one of the quieter but equally valuable attractions of this place.

The waters of the lake are home to, among others, zander, pike, bream, perch and tench, as well as the strictly protected river lamprey. Fishing is allowed after purchasing a permit at the Mielno Fishing Farm. Amateur anglers value this body of water for its peace and species diversity — catches are made here both from the shore and from a boat.
