What to do in Sarbinowo?
Best attractions and places — worth visiting
Sarbinowo is a seaside town in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, which is increasingly appearing as an alternative to the crowded Kołobrzeg or Mielno. The attractions in Sarbinowo are more modest than in larger resorts — but it is exactly this that attracts: a wider beach in Sarbinowo, a quieter promenade and a great location between several interesting places on the coast. From Sarbinowo you have within bicycle range the lighthouse in Gąski, atmospheric Chłopy and Mielno with Lake Jamno. Below you will find a concrete plan – routes with distances, attractions in the town itself and tips for a rainy day.
What is worth seeing in Sarbinowo itself?
Sarbinowo grew out of an old fishing village and you can still feel this in the layout of the buildings. The biggest attraction is the sandy beach — wide, with a gentle descent into the water, guarded in season. The seaside promenade stretches along the shore and is an ideal place for walks at sunset. In the evenings cafés, ice cream parlours and typical seaside gastronomic spots are open here.
In the centre of the town stands the neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary — a monument that stands out against the seaside buildings. It is also worth looking for the fisherman’s hut, which is reminiscent of Sarbinowo’s fishing past. For children, seasonal family attractions are available.
Routes from Sarbinowo
Route 1 – Sarbinowo → Chłopy → Mielno
This is the easiest and most family-friendly route from Sarbinowo. To Chłopy it is just under 2.5 km via the Velo Baltica cycle path, which runs through Sarbinowo and leads along the coast. Chłopy is a unique seaside town — entirely listed in the register of monuments as an example of a traditional fishing village. By the harbour it is worth stopping for fresh fish straight from the fish bar or doing this in Mielno, popping into the small museum Treasury of the Fishing Village and going onto the 90-metre pier, from which a view of the open sea extends.
Whoever has more strength, goes further — through Mielenko to Mielno, another about 6 km. On the spot Lake Jamno, the pier and several good cafés await, you can also use the free outdoor gym in Mielno. Together about 17–18 km there and back — a distance for everyone. The cycle route stretches all the way through the dunes, up to the entry into Mielno.
Practically: parking at the entrance to Chłopy is paid in season, you can leave your bike easily by the harbour. The route is flat, great for families with children. Seasonal bike rentals operate in Sarbinowo.
Route 2 – Sarbinowo → Gąski and the lighthouse
The lighthouse in Gąski is one of the classic points on the Central Coast. To Gąski from Sarbinowo it is about 6 km on the Velo Baltica — a picturesque, mostly forest cycle path. The lighthouse is 50 metres high and has 190 winding steps to the top. The view from the terrace over the Baltic in good weather is worth every step. A standard ticket costs about 15 PLN, a reduced one about 10 PLN.
It is best to plan this route for the afternoon — the sunset observed from the vicinity of the lighthouse or from the beach on the way back is one of those moments you remember long after the holiday.
Practically: lighthouse open May–October, hours 10:00–18:00 (July–August until sunset with a break 13:30–15:00). Off-season entry after contact with the lighthouse keeper. The cycle route is flat and well marked.
Route 3 – Ustronie Morskie and Kołobrzeg by car
If you have a car, Ustronie Morskie is about 16–17 km towards Kołobrzeg. Beyond Gąski the coast becomes cliffed — different from at Sarbinowo, wilder and more picturesque. For a day trip it is worth choosing a bigger town: fishing port, historic lighthouse, cathedral and museums. The biggest tourist town in the area of Sarbinowo and will easily fill the whole day.
Practically: Kołobrzeg is about 30 km from Sarbinowo, parking at the port or in the centre. A good idea for a day with less favourable weather.
A trip inland – Hortulus Gardens in Dobrzyca
The Hortulus Theme Gardens lie about 15 km from Sarbinowo — they are the most interesting attraction in the vicinity of Sarbinowo away from the coastline. The Hortulus gardens include several themed zones and a hornbeam maze, one of the largest in Poland. The neighbouring facility — Hortulus Spectabilis — has a watchtower and a record-breaking maze. A ticket package for both gardens costs 96 PLN standard and 60 PLN reduced. The season runs from mid-April.
This is an ideal trip for a day when the beach is less tempting — or as a variation on a week’s stay by the sea.
