The Friendship Promenade in Mielno is a nearly two-kilometre walkway running along the shore of the Baltic Sea, which connects the centre of the resort with neighbouring Unieście. It is one of the longest seaside promenades on this stretch of coast and at the same time one of the favourite walking spots both among tourists and residents.

Over a hundred years of history by the Baltic

The history of the promenade dates back to 1908, when it was built not as a tourist attraction but as a fortification protecting the coastal dunes from the destructive action of sea waves. Over time, the walkway became a natural place for strolls of spa guests and summer visitors recovering in the then health resort.

In the 1980s, a violent storm tore the dunes apart, and with them the promenade — a multi-year gap in the continuity of the route arose. The breakthrough came in 2018, when as part of the final phase of reconstruction two existing sections were connected by an over 350-metre footbridge on steel piles. The investment worth over 3.6 million zł, co-financed from the Regional Operational Programme of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, was officially opened on 13 July 2018.

A walk by the sea — what awaits you along the way

The route of the Friendship Promenade runs right by the dune line, offering an almost uninterrupted view of the sea. Along the walkway, benches and three modernised descents to the beach are arranged — at Orła Białego, Chmielna and Mickiewicza streets. The whole is illuminated, so evening walks have a special charm here. It is most beautiful at sunset, when the sky over the Baltic Sea takes on intense shades of orange and pink.

When walking along the promenade, it is worth paying attention to the 26 colourful graphic boards by the Koszalin artist Tomasz Żuk, working under the pseudonym CUKIN. These works form the unique outdoor Cukin Gallery, promoting the tourist attractions of the Mielno commune in the form of colourful illustrations.

Who is the Friendship Promenade for

The Friendship Promenade is perfect for a walk at any time of year. The level, paved surface is comfortable both for families with prams and for the elderly. Active visitors can treat the route as part of a longer walking or cycling trail along the coast. An evening walk along the seaside promenade combines perfectly with a cruise on the Mila boat across Lake Jamno.

The Friendship Promenade in Mielno is accessible free of charge all year round. It is one of those points on the map of the resort to which you return many times — in the morning, at noon and after dusk.
