How to get a permit, where to fish and what fish await you in Lake Jamno

Lake Jamno is one of the largest coastal lakes in Poland and a great fishing ground right next to Mielno. Before you cast the rod, check where to buy a permit, how much it costs and which places give the greatest chances of a successful catch.

Fishing on Lake Jamno – permit, places and what you can catch

Lake Jamno is one of the largest coastal lakes in Poland and a quiet alternative to the crowded beach – especially for those who come to Mielno with a rod in the boot. Amateur anglers will find here a varied fish fauna, a few really decent spots and relatively simple rules that you need to know before the first cast.

Lake Jamno – a few words about the water body

The lake is located in the commune of Mielno, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, just behind the strip of dunes separating it from the Baltic Sea. The surface area is about 2,200 hectares, and the average depth is barely 1.5–2 metres – shallow but biologically rich waters favour the existence of many species of fish.

The lake lies on a spit and is connected to the sea by the Jamno Canal – this is an important detail for anglers, because precisely at this place migratory fish appear, including sea trout. Along the shores stretch reedbeds and muddy ground, which attracts peaceful species. In deeper channels and at a stony bottom you can count on something more exciting.

Is Lake Jamno in the PZW (Polish Angling Association)?

Short answer: no. It is one of the most common mistakes made by anglers coming to this area – the PZW Koszalin card does not entitle you to catch fish here. The lake is managed by the Fishery Farm “MIELNO” Sp. z o.o., which runs its own system, independent of the structures of the Polish Angling Association.

How to obtain a fishing permit on Lake Jamno?

Where to buy a permit?

You can buy fishing permits at several places:

  • Office of the Fishery Farm – ul. Chrobrego 43, Mielno
  • Post Office in Mielno – ul. 1 Maja 5
  • At selected post offices in the area

If you do not want to look for a till on site, you can also use the online option. The e-permit is available at www.rybymielno.pl – it is a convenient option for those planning a trip in advance. Having a permit in a valid form (paper or electronic) is obligatory – checks on the lake do happen.

How much does the permit cost? Prices 2026

The prices of permits for catching fish in the 2026 season are as follows:

Type Price (season) From the shore approx. 190 PLN From the shore + boat (in daytime) approx. 260 PLN

You buy the permit from the Fishery Farm MIELNO once for the whole season – there is no daily ticket system here as at some other fisheries.

What fish can you catch in Lake Jamno?

Lake Jamno is famous mainly for predatory species and white fish species. The angling potential of this body of water is appreciated both by calmer bream hunters and by those who seek excitement when fighting a decent specimen.

Species you can count on:

  • Eel – best from June to September, on a dead small fish or earthworm; prefers deeper places and dense vegetation
  • Pikeperch – night and morning feeding, mainly at deeper channels
  • Perch and pike – classic predators available throughout the season
  • Bream – shallow, muddy zones of the lake, early morning and late afternoon
  • Tench – in the reeds and at the muddy bottom
  • Sea trout – appears at the Jamno Canal as a migratory fish from the sea; it is a rarity but an unforgettable specimen for every angler

The best fishing spots on Lake Jamno

The lake has a considerable surface area, so the choice of position makes a difference. On the basis of anglers’ opinions and the nature of the bottom, several fishing grounds stand out that are particularly worth getting to:

Jamno Canal – connects the lake with the Baltic, strong current and a rich food base. The best place for predators, especially in the area of the mouth.

Mouth of the Strzeżenica river – an area known for bream, good access and several comfortable shore spots.

Surroundings of Dęby (Łabusz) – underwater stones and a varied bottom attract perch and pikeperch. A good place for spinning.

Shores at Mielno and Unieście – accessible spots right by the localities, ideal for those who treat fishing as part of an excursion holiday. You will also find here a jetty that allows comfortable fishing without a swampy shore.

Fishing from a boat – what is worth knowing?

Fishing from a boat requires the purchase of an appropriate permit (the more expensive option – about 260 PLN/season). Fishing from a boat is allowed from dawn to dusk – night sittings from a boat are prohibited here.

If you are planning spinning for predators, a boat gives definitely more possibilities than the shore – you can reach deeper channels and go along overgrown zones where pike holds. Hard and soft lures work well; in the summer season it is worth betting on bottom techniques when fishing for eel. Remember that your own boat is not required – there are points on the lake where you can hire equipment.

Rules and catch limits

When fishing in waters used by the fishery farm in Mielno, the Farm’s regulations apply to you. Key points:

  • Catch limits apply for each species separately – before the trip check current values on zpw.pl or www.rybymielno.pl
  • Protective sizes of fish apply – undersized specimens return to the water
  • Closed seasons apply to, among others, pike and eel
  • A register is not required, but it is worth noting the results yourself

If you have doubts about specific rules, the simplest is to call the Farm directly – tel. 94 318 90 54.

Summary

Lake Jamno is an attractive and inexpensive fishery for anglers at every level. A single purchase of a seasonal permit gives access to a rich body of water with varied fauna – from quiet bream grounds to the canal, where you can come across real surprises. Before you cast the rod, make sure you have a valid document from the MIELNO Farm – it is the only condition to spend a quiet day by the water.
