Arboretum in Karnieszewice is a historic dendrological garden established around 1881, located 15 km north-east of Koszalin on national road No. 6. It is one of the most naturally valuable places in the region — and, importantly, accessible free of charge all year round.
Collection of trees and shrubs
Over 80 species of trees and 60 species of shrubs grow on the grounds of the arboretum, including many exotic specimens brought here more than a hundred years ago. Among the most valuable specimens are the impressive Douglas firs reaching up to 48 metres in height. One of them — with a circumference of 490 cm at breast height — is considered the thickest Douglas fir in Poland.
The garden has retained its natural, park-like character with walking paths leading through old tree stands. There are also picnic-fire areas, benches and rest zones on the grounds.
Who it’s for and how to get there
The arboretum is a proposal for nature lovers, families with children looking for a quiet walk and those interested in dendrology. The garden is open daily from 7:00 until dusk. From Mielno, the drive takes about 25 minutes. The visit can be combined with a trip to the nearby Botanical Garden in Niegoszcz or with sightseeing of the attractions in Mielno.
