The Museum in Koszalin is the largest museum institution in the region, gathering collections in the field of archaeology, history, ethnography and art. It is housed in a historic complex of a mill and a miller’s house at ul. Młyńska 37–39, in the very centre of the city. For tourists holidaying in Mielno, it constitutes an excellent destination for a cultural trip — the journey by train or bus takes only about 15 minutes.
Permanent exhibitions and collections of the Koszalin Museum
The museum makes available several permanent exhibitions that allow you to learn about the history of Pomerania from prehistory to modern times. The archaeological exhibition “Prehistory of Pomerania” presents finds from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. Art lovers will be interested in the collection “Old Art and Artistic Craft”, encompassing works from Baroque to Art Nouveau. A separate exhibition is dedicated to numismatics — coins and medals here illustrate the history of minting since antiquity.
Among the ethnographic exhibitions, the reconstruction of old craft workshops, including a Pomeranian forge and a shoemaker’s workshop, deserves attention. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, educational workshops and guided tours.
Practical information
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday — in the summer season (June–August) from 10:00 to 17:00, and in other months until 16:00. Mondays are the closing day. A standard ticket costs 10 PLN, a concessionary ticket 8 PLN. On Fridays, admission to permanent exhibitions is free [some sources also indicate Sundays as a free day].
From Mielno, the easiest way to reach Koszalin is by train from the Mielno Koszalińskie stop — the journey takes about 15 minutes. In Koszalin, city bus line No. 3 reaches the museum (stops “Muzeum 01” and “Muzeum 02”).
Who is it for
A visit to the museum is a proposal both for families with children and for enthusiasts of regional history. The archaeological and ethnographic exhibitions engage younger visitors, and the collection of old art will interest culture lovers. It is also a good idea for a rainy day — the visit takes place entirely indoors. It is worth combining the visit with a trip to Chełmska Mountain, located a few kilometres from the centre of Koszalin.
