The Pier in Mielno is a wooden walking pier located in Unieście — the eastern district of the Mielno municipality. The structure is about 90–100 metres long and leads straight over the open waters of the Baltic Sea, offering views of the beach, fishing boats and the coastal panorama. It is a place of intimate character, where the crowds typical of piers in larger resorts are absent.

Location and access

The pier is located in Unieście, about 3 kilometres east of the centre of Mielno. Access from the beach side leads along Rybacka or Kościelna streets, right next to the fishing harbour. From Mielno you can reach it on foot in about 35–40 minutes, walking along the Promenada Przyjaźni, which is 3 km long and connects both towns. The route runs along the coast and is itself an attractive walk. Cyclists will cover it in 10–15 minutes.

Wooden structure over the Baltic

The current pier was renovated and modernised after the previous, older structure threatened to collapse and had to be dismantled. The new walkway ensures the safety of strollers throughout the year, has an even surface and is also accessible for prams. After dark, the structure is illuminated — so it can also be used in the evenings.

From the pier there extends a view over Pomeranian Bay, the open sea and the characteristic fishing boats moored in the nearby harbour. Along the pier, you can often watch the work of local fishermen — an authentic image of the coast that is already missing in many resorts.

The best time to visit

The pier in Mielno looks most beautiful at sunset, when the sky and water change into intense shades of orange and red. It is one of the most photographed points on the central coast, especially in the summer evenings.

The second great moment is early morning, when the pier is practically empty and the fishermen are returning from the catch. It is the moment for lovers of silence, nature photography and contemplation over the Baltic.

What to see in the vicinity

A walk along the pier is worth combining with a visit to the Fishing Harbour in Unieście, where you can buy fresh fish straight from the boat and eat it in one of the local fish bars. The Fisherman’s Room, presenting local tradition, is also located in the area, and a few hundred metres further on a wide sandy beach extends, with a guarded bathing area in season.

If you are planning a longer day of sightseeing, after the pier and harbour it is worth returning to the centre of Mielno — there the Museum of Illusions awaits with over 30 interactive installations, the Butterfly House with a tropical garden and cruises on the Mila ship on Lake Jamno. All three attractions are located 10–15 minutes’ walk from the beach.

Pier in Mielno vs pier in Chłopy

There are two piers in the Mielno municipality — in Unieście and in Chłopy. Each has a different character:

  • Pier in Unieście (Mielno) — a classic, single-level wooden walkway about 100 m long, intimate and free of crowds, ideal for a quiet walk.
  • Pier in Chłopy — two-level structure from 2015 (5 million zł investment), 90 m long, combines tourist and fishing functions, higher footfall.

The two piers are about 6 km apart. It is worth planning a trip combining both points along with the Obelisk of the 16th Meridian in Chłopy and the Treasury of the Fishing Village.
